What does 1 liter good organic olive oil cost?
You now know what 1 liter of organic extra virgin olive oil costs, but what does good organic extra virgin olive oil cost? That’s a bit trickier to put a number on. When it comes to Greek olive oil, you’re generally looking at a minimum of €25 per liter for the real deal.
Why? Because we believe in fair prices, both for the Cretan farmers and for you as the consumer. So, if you come across cheaper organic extra virgin olive oil, there’s often something off. Chances are, it’s not truly organic or not of the highest quality… and that’s something you’ll taste.
What is the best organic extra virgin olive oil?
One thing’s for sure: when it comes to taste, there’s no accounting for personal preference. An organic extra virgin olive oil from Spain will taste different than one from Greece. That’s due to differences in climate, soil, cultivation methods, and so on.
Still, there are ways to determine the quality of an olive oil. Our tip? Always choose an olive oil from a producer you know and trust. That way, you can enjoy it with peace of mind!

Additionally, the median score on the 12 possible defects must be 0, and the median score for fruitiness must be above 0.

The extra virgin olive oil (green bottles/cans) found on our website is organic. You can read more about it here: organic olive oil. Our highest-quality organic extra virgin olive oil is the most expensive variant (green can), as producing this oil is more labor-intensive: you can only use natural pesticides and no artificial fertilizers. Throughout this process, extra attention is paid to health and biodiversity.
The conventional extra virgin olive oil you find at Albert Heijn (blue bottles and cans) is not organic. Our highest-quality conventional extra virgin olive oil (blue cans/bottles) is somewhat more affordable than our organic oil, as the production process is less complex.
After pressing our (organic) extra virgin olive oil, fresh pulp remains. This pulp is used to naturally produce our pomace olive oil (yellow cans). This olive oil is also available at Albert Heijn. You can find more information about whether pomace olive oil is healthy.
In short, all our products are of excellent quality: the only difference is in how they are made. It’s up to each individual to decide which product and price best suit them. Check out more info here about the different types of olive oil.
